What is Screen Printing?

Screen printing is the process of pressing ink through a mesh based stenciled screen to create a printed design using a squeegee (a rubber blade). This technique is favorable because it produces vibrant colours even on darker fabrics as the ink lies in layers on the surface of the garment. When printing onto dark coloured fabrics, a white base layer is applied first followed by the coloured inks on top to ensure a higher opacity.

There are, however, set-up costs involved for screen print, as the more colours used, the higher the set-upcost.

Benefits of Screen Printing

Cost-effective

One of the beauties of screen printing is that with ahigh print volume, means the lower the cost. Screen printing does have the most complex set up process, but once it’s done, you can replicate the print as many times as you like using the same screen.

Range of Techniques and Inks Available

There are many different techniques you can use with screen printing. A few examples include:
- Glow in the dark
- Neon
- 3D puff
- Water-based (eco-friendly)
- Discharge
- Metallic
- Foil

High Print Volumes

One major advantage of screen printing is that it is a bulk order friendly process. It is ideal for large volumes, and it prints bulk orders quickly and cost effectively.

Durability

This method of printing is much more durable as it lays down thick layers of ink onto the fabric. There are no fading, peeling or cracking issues leading to enhanced durability.

Helping the Environment

We use water-based inks where we are able to. These inks are made with water and naturally occurring substances for dying.
